- This program is provided free of charge. This application was designed to be
- menu-driven as a stand-alone program for small to medium sized mailing lists
- for community newspapers or newsletters. This program should be run from at
- least an IBM XT-compatible computer, 512K RAM, available hard drive and one (1)
- floppy disk drive.

- * dBase Users Only: - The *.LBL files are designed to be used with 4" X 1 7/8"
- X 1 labels. Use dBase to modify the size of the labels (SUBLIST.LBL to be used
- with SUBLIST.DBF, PATRON.LBL to be used with PATRON.DBF). *.DBF and *.LBL are
- dBase-compatible files. Caution: Results obtained with this program will be
- unpredictable if any of the field names, lengths, or label values are modified.
- Only experienced users of dBase should attempt any modification to the *.DBF
- or *.LBL files.

- After following the instructions contained in the file 'README.1ST',
- just type 'SUBMGR' to start the program. Any option can be selected via the
- light bar or by pressing the option number. The following notes should be
- observed for each option:

- OPTION 1 - Will print out choice of mailing labels for subscribers in the
- database which are marked as 'PAID' (for newspaper mailings), not 'PAID'
- (for payment reminders), or 'ELAPSED' (to renew elapsed subscription). 'PAID'
- subscriptions which will expire within ninety (90) days from the date of the
- mailing have the following message printed to alert subscribers that their
- subscription is about to expire:

- **** TIME TO RENEW ****

- The message '**** EXPIRED SUBSCRIPTION ****' appears on the mailing label for
- those subscriptions which are past the subscription ending date.

- Note: Codes on top of mailing labels provide record number in database
- ("R-<Record No.>") and Subscription Number ("S-<Sub. No.>") for easy reference.

- OPTION 2 - Will print out either a single or the entire listing of commercial
- advertisers in the database.

- Options 3/4 - Allows for the editing of individual entries in either the
- subscriber or commercial account databases. If the subscription or
- advertiser number is not found, the entire database is available for viewing
- and modification.

- When an individual entry is displayed, changes are saved to the database by
- holding down the <CTRL> and <END> keys at the same time. to exit without making
- any changes, press <ESC> key.

- When the entire database is being viewed (12 entries are available for viewing
- per screen), the following keys are available:

- <Page Up> - Previous Page
- <Page Down> - Next Page
- <Return> or <Enter> - Edits the Current Database Record Field
- <ESC> - Exit There are several other key combinations available. Full documentation is
- available for those users with a working knowledge of the (C) CLIPPER or
- other dBase compatible compiler.

- Options 5/6 - Inserts individual entry into either database. These options
- employ full-screen editing of a blank record in the database. Subscriber
- and commercial advertiser numbers are uniquely generated by enabling this
- option. If a mistake is made, either the left arrow key or backspace key
- will allow the user to make the necessary correction.

- Note: Entries entered without any name information will be deleted the
- next time NEWSMGR is started up to allow for deletion of records added by
- mistake.

- Options 7/8 - Deletes an individual subscriber or commercial account record
- from the database. The subscriber or commercial account number is needed. The
- user is prompted to verify the address displayed, prior to record deletion.

- Option 9 - Terminates execution of this program.
